Well we all got back safe and sound from Mini-Mega Con yesterday. Lots of fun but I missed my wife and son dearly, so its great to be back. Had lots of fun with :iconrandygreen: :iconwillcaligan: and :iconbathill8: we all went to Downtown Disney and ate at the House of Blues and then watched Inglorious Basterds at the AMC. GREAT movie! "I've got a bingo!"

Anyway the show itself was also alot of fun and got to see some old friends and make some new ones. We all ate with the guys at :icononixan: Great guys, check 'em out, if you haven't already. Got to talk with Steve Scott from the old LNS days and finally meet :iconjenchuan: in person. Another great artist. I will also be doing two collaboration cards for the Spider-Man Archives set with :icondangerous-beauty778: also a wounderful person and very talented artist. I hope to go back in March for the big show.

On a side note I am still open for commissions and if anyone is ever intrested in purchasing some of the portraits in my gallery(LOST, Johnny Cash, whatever) just drop me a note.

Well now I am doing some sketch cards for the Spider-Man Archives set due out in October from Rittenhouse. They have an ad online for the set. [link] I was ecstatic to learn that they used one of my cards along with :icondangerous-beauty778: and :iconartguynj: cards for the ad. Along with some other guy named JOHN ROMITA! How cool is that?!? Anyway I am really happy with how they have turned out so far and I can't wait till I can show them all off.

Well the X-Men Origins: Wolverine card set came out last Wednesday and I did 99 cards for the set. Although six were removed for licensing reasons, they contained characters from other Marvel films. Several of them have made their way to E-Bay already and are available for sale. Also you can find the five cards I did for the March of Dimes "Be A Superhero for Babies" fund raiser. If you have time, check em out. Some of them are still at low prices. I'll also be appearing at the Hickory Comic Con at the Hickory Convention Center in Hickory, NC this Saturday from 10-5, so if any one is around this area this weekend drop by and say hello. My wife and I will also be at Rock Barn Golf Club on May 29th for a March of Dimes fundraiser. We will have a booth set up, as my wife did the flyer designs for the event. I also just recently bought a Wacom Intuos 4 tablet and have been having a lot of fun playing on that. I'm about to start work on another card sketch set for Rittenhouse and some cards based on the 80's " The Greatest American Hero" TV show. So work is picking up and I hope it keeps up.

Well I'm finally done with my first foray into Sketch Cards. Its probably the ONLY time that I'm thankfull that I have been laid off. Found out that little gem about a week after I recieved my package from Rittenhouse. But with the amount of time that they eventually took I'm glad I had, otherwise I would have to rush all of those out. It was an intresting experience to say the least and I do hope to do some more. It wasn't till I got near the end of the work that I actually felt comfortable and really get a feel of what I could do in the limited space. But I think I gave each one my all and I hope whoever gets them, likes them. The worst part, in my opinion, aside from the low pay that these projects bring, is doing all that work and having to wait to show it. Oh well, it will be worth it when the set is finally released (end of April I think) and I can finally show off all my hard work. So now its on to other things, I have a new commision to do and then some private projects. Recently I've also met a number of NC artists here on DA, all quite good, and hope to meet them all face to face one day. Plus my "Oh, Freckles" piece won the Golden Mary award for best Sawyer pic, so hopefully I can do some more LOST pics soon. Well time to get busy, its been a while since I've posted, so I need to get some stuff done.

Well this has been one crazy week. First I get nominated for my Sawyer pic (shamless plug, Oh Freckles) for a Golden Mary award by the Lost Fan Club (Thanks), then :iconmalicetear: has some of my work featured on :icondailydeviants: , big thanks to her, and now I have just recieved my sketch cards for the new X-Men: Wolverine Origins card set coming out from Rittenhouse. Big ups (again) to :iconjenchuan: for all her help and her tireless patience with my questions. I hope its a sign of things to come.

Only bad part is that I was in the middle of working on a new piece with some of my favorite action movie characters. I guess it will have to wait till I get those cards done. Wish me luck!

Last journal I felt, upon rereading, there was just a bit much more rant than rave it was just some things that I had had on my chest for a while and had to get out there. Even if no one read it, it helps in some fasion. And yet here I was preaching to the choir as it were. So with that being said things have hopefully turned around as of late. Christmas came and went and I did about six caricatures and a couple of portraits for people, so that brought in some extra cash and some more exposure. They all seemed very pleased and some have spoke about future work or bringing in new customers, so fingers crossed. I've also been seeing alot of the sketch cards alot online and here on Deviant Art, so after some exploring and some assistance from :iconjenchuan: ,who was extremely heplful and put up with all my questions and if you haven't checked out her gallery, your missing out, I have decided to explore that avenue a bit. Will be posting some soon with different subjects and mediums, still exploring trying to draw on a 2.5 X 3.5 surface, but hopefully I will get some good reactions. So things are going better and will hopefully continue on that route for awhile. Thanks to all.

So here goes. I've never written on my journal before, nothing much to say I guess. But as of late I've been trying to reach out more on DA, Myspace what have you. I have been on this site for over five years and have just recently passed the 1500 page views (woo-hoo. Now I know its not a big deal (quantity of page views I mean), hell I'm just happy someone at least looks at it, but there has been a influx of more views in the past couple of weeks and I feel I would be remise if I didn't acknowledge :iconlost-fans: and :iconcreedysgirl:. They both have really brought my art to more peoples attention, so hats off to you both. Also a hats off to :iconhandie: shes been extremely sweet and gracious with her comments.

There is one other thing that would genuinely like to hear others thoughts on however. I live, to paraphrase Luke Skywalker, "if there is a bright spot in the universe, then your on the planet (or in my case town) furthest from". I work in a factory and have about zero interaction with anyone in the art community. I am trying to make some changes to that, put like most things it will end up costing money. So every now and then at work I'll take my portfolio and all I get are comments like "What are you doing working here?" or "If I had that kind of talent, you wouldn't see me in here." and I say till I'm blue in the face that much like them I need to make money too. I need to keep the lights on, my son feed and gas in the car. I say that the banks MY drawings of money, only the governments. Then when these same people want you to draw them a picture and you tell them how much you do it for they get this look on there face like how much?!? I believe they think they only need to pay me for a sheet of paper and a pencil. Now I'm pretty cheap, I think, rate wise but no of them seem to grasp that concept. I mean if I'm going to draw something for free its going to be something I want to do. Anyway enough of that I just want to see if anyone else out there has had similar experiences. Thanks to all for looking and take care.
